portofino to lake como

As the sound of summer is finally here, it feels like no destination perfectly exemplifies that summer feeling quite like Italy. From diving into the Mediterranean sea, to driving a vintage Fiat through Tuscany, or simply enjoying a tasty gelato, there’s much to love about the Italian spirit. Two Italian destinations we have our eyes set on this summer are Portofino and Lake Como, only separated by a three-hour drive. Here, living the dolce-vita is effortless. With Italy preparing for its busiest travel season on record, it may be the perfect destination to escape the crowds in the cities and relax.

This idyllic fishing village is home to two hotels that Voyager Club loves. Both are a part of the legendary Belmond hotel group, offering two different perspectives on life along the Ligurian coast. Since they are both uniquely stunning, you may have a difficult time deciding which to call home during your stay. Why not spend a little time at both to have the complete Portofino experience?
Nestled in the hills along Portofino, the Hotel Splendido offers the most incredible bay views. Once a favourite of Grace Kelly and Winston Churchill, it still beckons discernable travellers from around the world. Begin each day, at your leisure, with breakfast on the terrace and watch the Italian Riviera come to life from above. Afterwards, you can spend your day poolside or exploring the region with experiences organised by Voyager Club. End the day with a relaxing candlelit dinner at La Terrazza, feeling so thankful to be in such a serene destination.
While Hotel Splendido gives you an opportunity to see Portofino from above, Splendido Mare is at the heart of the local social scene in the bay. The soul of Liguria helps this hotel come alive with the region's music, food, and culture. Since the town has been a welcoming holiday destination since the 1800s, it has mastered the art of hospitality. You will truly feel at home here. We recommend the Ava Gardner Suite (the private terrace is pictured above) for a true luxe, old Hollywood experience. Although the two hotels have different locations and aesthetics, both have unrivalled service that will inspire you to return and both offers access to the Bagni Fiore, one of Italy's most best beach clubs.
Like so many seaside destinations, Portofino is best experienced on the water. While a dip in the sea is always recommended and good for your soul, you’ll get a true sense of the region with a day charter with Giorgio Mussini the best in the harbour!
Lake como
Time and time again, one of our absolute favourite places to stay lakeside is Passalacqua. Located just fifteen minutes from the quaint village of Moltrasio, you’ll feel like you’re a world away from the hustle and bustle of home. The grand villa, which now serves as the resort’s main building, dates back to the 17th century and was once the host of many balls and galas. Today, Passalacqua continues to inspire with a combination of old-world elegance and modern glamour. From either the pristine pool with panoramic views of the lake or a charter on one of their vintage motor boats, you’ll have some of the best views in the entire region.
After a stay along the Tyrrhenian Sea, why not take your holiday on the road to explore another equally stunning region of Italy? Less than a three-hour drive from Portofino, you’ll find beloved Lake Como, Lago di Como, as it’s known regionally. Although a fairly short drive away, the scenery couldn’t be any more different. Trade the azul waters of the Mediterranean for calmer shores and sweeping mountain views in Lake Como.
Voyager Club is a luxury travel and concierge company & lifestyle platform, focusing on hidden gems around the world. A curation of some of the most unique hotels and properties around the globe and the world's first vacation wardrobe service My Vacation Stylist. Voyager Club can plan your perfect trip to Portofino, organise all your concierge needs and provide a bespoke, personalised vacation wardrobe to go with your itinerary.
After an adventurous day of exploring nearby Bellagio, lovingly known as the Pearl of the Lake, a pre-dinner apertivo of Negronis on the terrace is almost required. Unwind with the endless summer nights and the warm breeze that flows up the hillside with dinner al fresco. Passalacqua has created a menu that perfectly showcases regional cuisine using the freshest seasonal ingredients.
While in Lake Como, experience the beauty of dolce far niente, the art of doing nothing. We are happy to curate local experiences to keep your days busy, you may find the most joy lounging in the sun. Stretch out with a good book and an ice-cold glass of Italian wine. Perhaps a competitive game of bocce on the lawn is enough to get your blood pumping. Whichever route you decide to take, we know you’ll leave your Northern Italy holiday feeling perfectly refreshed and invigorated.
