Embarking on a journey to Sicily and the enchanting Aeolian Islands is like stepping into a world where time stands still, and beauty knows no bounds. This exquisite corner of Italy is a tapestry of ancient ruins, picturesque landscapes, and a rich cultural heritage.
Sicily
Our journey begins at legendary Belmond Timeo, nestled on a hillside overlooking the breathtaking coastline of Taormina. This hotel captures the essence of Sicily's rich history and unrivalled beauty, an iconic hotel nestled in the picturesque town of Taormina. Perched on a hillside with mesmerizing views of the sparkling Ionian Sea and the magnificent Mount Etna, this luxurious retreat captures the essence of Sicilian charm. The views from the terrace and aperitivo are exceptional, as is the guest relations manager Enzo, who is always on hand at every corner.

Breakfast is granita and brioche (when in Rome!) or Sicilian eggs. After breakfast, you can jump on the hotel shuttle to the beach at Sant'Andrea, the sister property to Timeo. The beach club is very nice and has an excellent crudo & gelato station. From here, you can go by boat to the simple trattoria Pizzichella for lunch (very simple, fresh seafood and delicious). Every evening there is a granita tasting, with unusual combinations and a beautiful atmosphere. In the evening, you can venture out into town for Sicilian cuisine (try Rossodivino) or at the hotel's restaurant, where the pasta alla norma is something you won’t forget.
Discover the timeless charm of Taormina as you wander through its winding streets. A visit to the ancient Greek Theater is a must, but go in the early morning, otherwise you fry. Shopping is a must, with beautiful old Ceramics and fabrics. A friend J..J has just opened a new La Double J store, which is beyond! A true lifestyle offering in print-raising vibration!

Salina
Leaving Taormina behind, we venture to the serene island of Salina, where Capo Farò Salina awaits us. Nestled amidst vineyards, fragrant citrus groves, and panoramic views of the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea, this boutique hotel is a true haven of tranquility. With its impeccable design, and dedication to sustainability, Capo Farò Salina offers an idyllic escape from the town of Taormina.
As we settle into our room, Pollara is located in the lighthouse (The Faro), it is a blend of natural elements and renovated comforts. From private terraces overlooking the vineyards to an incredible pool and bio products, you feel the touch of the Tasca family everywhere. Every morning yoga under the shade of the pine trees is heavenly. We spend our days by the pool or exploring the island's pristine beaches, embarking on scenic hikes, and immersing ourselves in the local culture (granita). Salina's traditional Aeolian cuisine, with its emphasis on fresh seafood and locally grown produce and their speciality, capers. Watching the sunset from Pollara is a must and the hotel can prepare an aperitivo. We left Capo Faro to venture to Hotel Signum for dinner but honestly, we should have not left CF. On our last day, the estate’s Sommelier and all around incredible humans, Valero, prepared us the best wine tasting. We did not want to leave.

Lastly, we head to Vulcano, which has a unique blend of natural wonders, volcanic landscapes, therapeutic mud baths, and pristine beaches. As we set foot on the Island, we are immediately greeted by its smell of Sulphur (luckily only present where you reach the port!) but it's an awe-inspiring volcanic landscape. The island derives its name from the Roman god of fire, "Vulcan," and it's easy to see why. Hiking up to Gran Cratere, the island's main volcano, we witness the remarkable sight of smoking fumaroles and the rugged terrain shaped by ancient eruptions.
Vulcano Island is renowned for its therapeutic mud baths and rejuvenating hot springs, making it a haven for relaxation and wellness seekers. Beyond its volcanic marvels, Vulcano Island is blessed with picturesque beaches. Spiaggia delle Sabbie Nere, with its black sand formed by volcanic activity, where you have to jump into clear turquoise waters to keep cool. The secluded Spiaggia dell'Asino, accessible only by boat or a scenic hike, offers a more secluded option.

No trip to the Aeolian Islands would be complete without a visit to Panarea. Aboard the most beautiful classic boat “Just” built in1992, with an equally colourful character and captain & chef Pierre, we set cruising to this small but charming island, known for its crystal-clear waters and bohemian chic vibe.
We explore the island's hidden coves by boat (there are many). We dive into the crystal waters with a background of rock formations and bask in the sun. After a quick shower, we approach the port of Panarea, for the evening and the sight of colorful fishermen's houses and cascading bougainvillea greets us. We join friends at Raya for aperitivo as the sunsets over the Aeolian Islands, followed by a delicious dinner at Cusiritati (have the crudo & pasta). However, Pierre is also a chef and was ready to prepare his sea bass and famous spaghetti. Next time! As we bid farewell to Panarea, and set cruising back to Salina under the stars and satellites.

No visit to Vulcano Island would be complete without more eating. After a local recommendation, we stumbled upon Trattoria da Gaetano, family-run and with the best gamberi rossi and swordfish crudo. Simple and so delicious with local Malvasia wines.

From the more sophisticated Belmond Timeo in Taormina to the serene retreat of Capofaro Salina, the bohemian luxe of Panarea and the views of the sunset in Vulcano.
